About the Choir
The Horsham Chamber Choir, founded in 1967, is an educational charity comprising some 40 members under the direction of Stephen Buckman, a professional conductor and musician, and assisted by June Wyatt, the accompanist. Members are drawn from around Horsham District and beyond. We sometimes have vacancies, details of which can be obtained from the Secretary. The Choir has been building up its repertoire over the last few years and recent years' programmes have included works by Bach, Byrd, Charpentier, Duruflé, Dvořák, Elgar, Fauré, Handel, Haydn, Kodály, Messiaen, Mozart, Poulenc, Puccini, Rutter, Vaughan Williams and Vivaldi. The last season featured works by contemporary local composers, Handel and mid-20th century British composers. The Choir uses professional instrumentalists and soloists. The Choir has performed all around Horsham and beyond. The Choir has undertaken joint ventures with Billingshurst Choral Society, Nantwich Choral Society and the West Sussex Philharmonic Choir covering works such as Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius and Bach’s St Matthew Passion. The Choir has enjoyed highly successful foreign tours to the Vienna Advent Festival and a choral weekend at Hereford Cathedral. The Choir has regularly performed charity concerts, particularly in aid of Leukaemia Research. Click here to view a photo.
